Play-The Diviners

Description: The Huntington Beach High School Academy for the Performing Arts (APA) Theater Department is proud to present The Diviners, a play written by James Leonard, Jr. The marvelously theatrical drama is the story of a disturbed young man, Buddy Layman, and his friendship with the charismatic but disillusioned preacher, C.C. Showers, set in a tiny southern Indiana town during the Depression era. The boy struggles with a severe phobia of water that developed after he nearly drowned in an accident that ended in his mother’s death. The haunting play, with its themes of love, friendship, family and community, remains a favorite among directors, actors and audiences since its debut.
