Pacific Islander Festival

Presenting Island Villages with cultural demonstrations” live hand-on arts projects” coconut and pandanus plaiting (weaving), lei making, tapa making and designing, drumming, chants, music, story-telling, cultural artifact exhibits, traditional protocol and island ceremony along with authentic island performance on center stage: chants, songs, music, dances, traditional costumes and accessories of the Pacific Islands. Surf City's 11th Annual O.C.S.P.C.A.'s Walk for the Animals

Description: Over 400 animal lovers and dogs for a morning of fun at the 11th Annual Walk for the Animals to benefit the Orange County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Registration begins at 7:30 AM and the 2K/5K walk starts at 9:00 AM. Collect pledges and win prizes while raising funds to support our programs which directly benefit the animals. Activities following the walk include, entertainment by Disc Dogs in Southern California, dog contests, dozens of sponsors and vendor booths, a silent auction, Pick Your Prize drawing and many fantastic door prizes! Low cost AVID micro-chipping will also be available. The OC SPCA is a non-profit organization and depends on donations and events such as these. All funds raised from the walk help support the organization’s programs including veterinary care for sick and injured animals, subsidized spay/neuter, feral cat rescue, cruelty prevention through humane education in the classroom and pet-assisted therapy. Well-mannered dogs, on leashes, are welcomed to attend. No puppies under six months please!

Registration: $20.00 by September 6th and $25.00 thereafter. Kids under 12 are free. (Teams of five or more pay $15.00 each if pre-registered by September 6th.)

Senior Saturday in Huntington Beach

Description: All seniors are invited to this fun event consisting of live music and over 70 sponsor booths with information, products and services. Kid’s Club at Bella Terra Shopping Center

Adventure Playground at Huntington Beach Central Park

Description: Kids can raft on a small pond, navigate a rope bridge, go down a mud slide or build forts at Adventure Playground, just like Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer. Children must wear tennis shoes and be prepared to get dirty. Adventure playground offers a shower and changing area, so please bring extra clothes, a bag and a towel, as kids will get dirty. Surf City Grunion Runs

Description: Grunion (Leuresthes tenuis) are members of the New World silversides family, Atheriniopsidae, along with the jacksmelt and topsmelt. They normally occur from Point Conception, California, to Point Abreojos, Baja California. Occasionally, they are found farther north to Monterey Bay, California and south to San Juanico Bay, Baja California. During the open season a fishing license is required for persons 16 years and older to capture grunion. Grunion may be taken or captured by bare hands only. No gloves or nets can be used. No holes may be dug in the beach to entrap them. There is no limit, but take only what you can use. It is unlawful to waste fish. With these regulations, the resource seems to be maintaining itself at a fairly constant level.
